Colleague Stories: Amanda Taylor

Amanda Taylor, Senior Research Scientist in the Analytical Development department - Philadelphia, discusses her career and experiences working at the company.

"I think in general, curiosity and willingness to figure things out on my own have been critical to my advancing at Quotient Sciences. You can really take on as much responsibility as you can handle and if you do well with it, it becomes your job"

What’s your current role at Quotient Sciences?

I am a Senior Research Scientist in the Analytical Development department, managing four Analytical Scientists.

How did your career journey here begin?

I began as an Analytical Scientist in June 2020.

What roles or moves have you made since joining?

I was promoted within the Analytical Development department to Analytical Scientist III when I started to manage customer projects independently, then Research Scientist when I began to manage other Analytical Scientists. And then Senior Research Scientist when I began to manage other managers and analysts (Research Scientists and Analytical Scientists).

What have you enjoyed most about your career at Quotient Sciences?

I’ve had the freedom to take the lead on anything I wanted in the lab, the autonomy to make changes that help the whole department, and the support to turn those changes into systems that strengthen the quality of our work.

What’s one achievement you’re proud of?

I established a 5S based inventory system in the lab in 2021 that the lab still uses for keeping items in stock for typical lab use, and a lab inventory team who helps upkeep the system and monitor things regularly. The team really takes ownership of the lab and that’s something that makes me really proud to support them whenever they need it.

What’s helped you progress or develop the most?

My managers and directors in the lab have been really great with knowing people. They are not only kind and helpful with everything I needed as I learned various aspects of the business but they set me up with awesome analysts around me. We have built up a really strong team who can rely on one another to support quality work.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to progress their career at Quotient Sciences?

For me, curiosity and a willingness to figure things out for myself have been key. You can take on as much responsibility as you can handle, and if you do it well, it becomes your job. Eventually, it just makes sense for your title to catch up with everything you’re already doing.
